ALAMINOS CITY—Employees of the local government here got their biggest Christmas gift this year.

All 309 regular employees here received a P25,000 bonus each while 273 job order workers received P3,000 in cash benefit.

Mayor Hernani Braganza said the employees deserve the cash gift for their continued hard work and dedication to the city, home of the Hundred Islands National Park.

Braganza noted the cooperation of the city council, which approved the proposed Appropriation Ordinance No. 2007-02 covering the bonus amounting to more than P8 million.

The extra bonus is provided under Local Budget Memorandum No. 54 dated Dec. 19, 2007 signed by Budget Secretary Rolando Andaya Jr, according to City Budget Officer Rowena Ruiz.

Under the memorandum, President Gloria Arroyo authorized local government units to grant additional benefits to their personnel using the local government’s savings.

Ruiz said the city government has sufficient funds and the move is within the Personal Services limitation under Sections 325 (a) and 331 (b) of RA No. 7160.

Braganza said 2007 has been a banner year for the city in all areas, including an improved revenue collection.

“And this paved the way for the city government to share its blessings to our hardworking employees out of the generated savings,” the mayor said.#
