PHILIPPINE NATIONAL OLYMPIC FESTIVAL

Team Dagupan brought home two gold and two bronze medals from the karate event of the National Philippine Olympic Festival held November 13-15 at the ULTRA Sports Complex in Pasig City.

John Enrico Vasquez, a pre-school student of Mother Goose Playskool won the gold in the 6-7 boys kata while Daniel Kurt Vidal (Ednas School) bagged the gold in the 10-11 boys kumite.

Grabbing the bronze medals were Jayson Ramil Macaalay (LNU-Special Science) in the 14-15 boys kumite and John Meverick (LNU-Creative Montessori) in the 12-13 boys kumite.

Winners in this national event, a project of the Philippine Olympic Committee in cooperation with the Local Government Units, will represent the Philippines in the World Youth Olympic Games.

Team Dagupan while lamenting not getting financial support from the local government, almost lost a medal for lack of transportation on the third day when Metro Manila was hit by heavy rains.

Dr. Enrico Vasquez, TD director, said he is proud of his team for their effort and commitment to participate and win at all costs.

Prior to the national event, Team Dagupan ranked as the overall first runner up with six gold medals at the North-Central Luzon/Cordillera Regional championships held in Vigan City in March.

Team Dagupan is under the supervision of the International Federation of Wado-Ryu Karate Do based in Tokyo, Japan. #
