MANGALDAN–The body of the late Francisco Aquino, a former Catholic priest and publisher of Pangasinan Journal, was desecrated by still unidentified suspects for still unknown reasons.

Francisco Naife, contractor of the victim’s tomb, discovered the desecration around 6:00 a.m. Monday when he was about to place the tombstone.

Naife immediately reported the incident to the police.

Superintendent Lloyd Millan, Mangaldan police chief, who said Aquino’s body was buried only last Sunday afternoon at the Catholic cemetery in Barangay Guilig here, confirmed that the body was illegally exhumed.

Millan told The PUNCH that the body was removed from its tomb and casket was left abandoned a few meters away covered by withered wreaths.

He ruled out robbery as motive as the ring of Aquino was still around his finger.

“There was no sign that it was robbed. It waspure and simple sabotage,” Millan said.

He said Aquino’s relatives cannot think of possible suspects who could do such a thing.

The police also invited other contractors in the cemetery for questioning. There was also reported misunderstanding between the deceased’s relatives and the cemetery caretaker.#
