LINGAYEN–The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the municipal government here recently signed a memorandum of understanding(MOU) for the launching of the PRS92 (Philippine Reference System of 1992) in the town.

PRS92 is the basic reference system for all surveying and mapping activities in the country, forming a homogenous national network of geodetic control points, physically marked by survey monuments, locally known as mojons.

The environment department is currently undertaking survey and data integration activities nationwide to fast-track the implementation of PRS92.

The “Adopt-a-Mojon” program of the DENR seeks to enlist the participation of the LGUs, people’s organizations, and the general public to service the geo-referencing needs of the surveying group at all times.

Per the MOU, the DENR will design the protection measures for the geodetic control points and supervise their construction, provide guidelines for the protection and maintenance of the control points, and extend technical assistance.

The local government, on the other hand, will assist in the periodic inventory and recovery of geodetic control points and other reference points, among other responsibilities.

Mayor Ernesto Castañeda and DENR regional director Victor Ancheta signed the said MOU, witnessed by Lawyer Crizaldy Barcelo, regional technical director of the DENR Region 1’s Land Management Service.—CSR
