Dawel-Lucao Highway opens in March 2008
THE Dawel-Lucao Diversion Road project, which started construction in 2002, will be completed and opened by March 2008, said Engr. Fidel Ginez, regional director of the Department of Public Works and Highways.
Ginez, in an interview with The PUNCH, said the P1.249-billion road project, considered as the biggest so far in Dagupan City, is already 70% complete and the target period of completion will be met byMarch next year.
Ginez said the road component still requires an additional P16-million fund, but House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr., one of the main proponents of the project, gave assurance that he will immediately produce P10-million.
Ginez said this could be enough for the project completion, although without the necessary road signages and paint delineations.
“What’s important is the public can already use it by March 2008 or five months from now, that (the signages) can come later,” Ginez said.
Meanwhile, De Venecia said the bridge is a realization of a “100-year dream”.
The unfinished 30%part of the project includes the construction of a P903-million Pantal bridge funded from a loan from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation.
The Pantal bridge, which will be 380-meters long and 9.7 meters wide, connects the Pantal-Dawel-Lucao Diversion Road.
The entire diversion road is 4.897 kilometers long with two other small bridges.
The project has taken long to complete because it traverses many fishpond areas, which require significant compensation.#
