San Carlos, San Fabian listed as ‘hotspots’
DUE TO PAST VIOLENCE
San Carlos City and the municipality of San Fabian have been declared by the Commission on Election (Comelec) as areas of immediate concern during the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on October 29
Lawyer Reddy Balarbar, provincial election supervisor, clarified, however, that the declaration does not mean placing the areas under Comelec control.
Instead, additional police officers will be stationed in the two areas.
San Carlos City Mayor Jolly Resuello was killed at the height of the May 2007 elections and the case remains unresolved.
San Fabian, on the other hand, was where lawyer Alejo Dojillo was gunned down in August.
The police also has yet to solve the crime but political motivation in line with the barangay election is seen as a strong angle.
The declaration as areas of immediate concern was also based upon the recommendation of Senior Superintendent Isagani Nerez, provincial police director.
Another area being closely watched is Barangay Bongalon in Labrador town for the killing last Monday of Loreto Ugaban, former barangay captain wherein the suspect, Mario Uson, was the incumbent barangay captain seeking re-election and remains at large.
Others include Barangay Carreido in Tayug town where Jaime Tolentino, a candidate for barangay captain, was gunned down; and Barangay Samang Sur, Bolinao town for the shooting of two barangay kagawad candidates Fely Anama and Freddie Ariola. #
