DAGUPAN CITY — Don’t stop the elections!

This was the message of the head of the Region 1 Development Council to both the Senate and the House of Representatives who are presently poised to postpone the barangay and Samahang Kabataan elections scheduled on October 29.

“It is disastrous and patently illegal to do so,” said Dr. Salvador Duque, Ilocos RDC chairman, said the scheduled barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on October 29 “was provided for by law; it is not optional, the Filipino people want it, and we have the money to fund it.”

“If we have billions to fund   national broadband network and a cyber education program, why can’t we fund a more urgent and crucial government program?” Duque, a known close ally of President Gloria Arroyo and Speaker Jose de Venecia, said.

He criticized the pro-postponement groups as trifling with a very substantial and critical governmental exercise, stressing that barangay officials  are our first linkages to the higher echelons f government and  the masses.#
