Police to identify barangay ‘hot spots’ in province
THE provincial police have yet to recommend to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) which barangays in Pangasinan should be listed as “areas of immediate concern” in connection with the coming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections On Oct. 29.
Police Sr. Supt. Isagani Nerez, Pangasinan police director, said during a kapihan forum hosted by the Pangasinan Tri-Media Association(Patrima) that he will soon submit the list of barangays considered as “areas of immediate concern” (AIC).
Initially, Nerez identified barangay Nibaliw Vidal in San Fabian town and barangay Carriedo in Tayug as possible AICs.
He said that while there has been no reported casualty among the candidates in Nibaliw Vidal, he noted that political tension between candidates and the supporters remain high.
In Carriedo, the killing of a candidate may be already an indicator, he said.
Nerez said his initial re-commendation is a pro-active move on their part and it is the COMELEC that will finally decide if the two should be included in the list of AIC in the province.
Meanwhile, lawyers Reddy Balarbar and Remarque Ravanzo, provincial election officer and Dagupan city election officer, respectively, said they are now ready for the October 29 elections.
They reminded prospective candidates that the last day of the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) is October 18. –CSR
