New PSU prexy outlines 10-point agenda

LINGAYEN–The new president of the Pangasinan State University (PSU) has vowed to bring the government-owned institution to “greater heights and make it a university of choice”.

Dr. Victoriano Estira, the fifth president of the university who was officially installed October 18, has outlined a 10-point agenda to make PSU more dynamic, responsive and productivity-driven.

Estira’s 10-point agenda covers strengthening income generating projects, expanding the curriculum, enhancing faculty and personnel skills, strengthening alternative learning and instructional delivery systems, revitalizing institutional partnerships and linkages, encouraging research and development initiatives, widening utilization of the information and communication technologies, systematizing development initiatives for technical and professional workers, maximizing students’ educational and training opportunities, and expanding community outreach and extension services.

Of the 10, however, Estira said he is giving high priority to expanding income generating projects, especially those that are already in place such as initiatives on multi-cropping systems and orchard management, livestock and poultry, aquaculture and hatchery, seed production, organic fertilizer production, manufacturing and metal-based industry, technical services, multi-line processing, integrated food services and commodity center and agro-forestry.

Estira, who has been in office for three months, has also initiated the opening of the Call Center training unit within the Lingayen campus, one of PSU’s eight campuses around the province.

Other projects which have   recently been initiated include the Institute of Social Works and Community Development, a collaborative project with Gina de Venecia, wife of   House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. and president of the Congressional Spouses Foundation Inc.

A new campus in Alaminos City was also opened in partnership with Mayor Hernani   Braganza. #
