Jaycees launch education versus electoral fraud
The Dagupan Jaycees launched last week its youth voter education project dubbed as “First Time Mo? ” to help prepare thousands of the city’s new young voters for the nationwide synchronized barangay and Samahang Kabataan elections on Monday.
“Every assurance must be made and guarantee adopted to ensure the free and intelligent exercise of the citizens free choice.”
This was one of the key declarations by the men and women of JCI Dagupan, one of the city’s local organizations for young leaders and entrepreneurs, in its special board resolution dated October 26, 2007, in support of clean, fair and honest elections on Monday.
Atty. Rowena De Vera, executive vice president-elect, said the intelligent exercise of the right to vote is necessary to deepen the gains of our democracy amid a political culture known for years to be characterized by vote-buying and organized fraud.
“This culture must be reformed to enable us to elect leaders who are qualified and accountable,” she said. #
