THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the municipal government of San Manuel are set to launch on Tuesday the Agro-Forestry Thematic Area project in barangay San Bonifacio, which is part of the DENR’s Green Philippines program.

Wendy Co, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), said about 500 seedlings will be planted during the launching set at the Bomboaya Elementary School.

The DENR’s Green Philippines program aims to plant 20 million trees nationwide.

Co said they have already   planted thousands of forest and fruit-bearing trees within the 10-hectare area, covering watersheds, protected areas, agro-forestry areas, schools, military camps, and coastal areas.

In critical watersheds and protected areas, she said, forest trees like mahogany, gemelina, narra, eucalyptus, and other trees endemic in the area are planted.

Participating in the launching event are officials from the DENR, National Transmission Corporation (TRANSCO), the Department of  Agriculture, Department of Agrarian Reform, town officials led by  Mayor Salvador Perez, and school officials.—CSR
