Calasio seeks P49-M to solve flood problem
CALASIAO–It will take P49 million to solve the flooding problem here and possibly help ease the flooding problem in neighboring Dagupan City.
Calasiao Mayor Roy Macanlalay said he has filed a request with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for funds to dredge the rivers and to construct concrete revetment and a road dike.
The flooding in Calasiao invariably contributes to more flood water in Dagupan.
The town was recently declared under a state of calamity after suffering from the flashfloods coming from nearby mountains that more than 10 barangays were under water.
An initial P500,000 calamity fund for relief goods and medicines was released to alleviate the plight of affected residents.
Over the weekend last week, barangays Gabon, Poblacion East, Talibaew, Quesban, Lasip,Mancup, San Vicente, Banaoang,Nalsian, Dinalaoan, Longos and Bued were affected by the flashflood.
“Even with little rains, Talibaew’s floodwater reaches neck deep in some areas. Flooding has become a way of life in most of the barangays affected,” Macanlalay said.
The mayor added that the recent flooding situation worsened due to a breached dike in Barangay Gabon and engineers have been fielded to look into the cause of the breach. #
