Alaminos soon “rabies-free”
Alaminos City, a popular tourist destination for its Hundred Islands National Park, could soon be a candidate for being declared a rabies-free city, according to Dr. Gloria Balboa, assistant regional director of the Department of Health (DOH) in the Ilocos region
Balboa said the local government unit led by Mayor Hernani Braganza and the local health department has been implementing good programs that, if maintained, could qualify the city for the recognition.
The declaration is part of the program of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III under Formula 1 that refers to the four pillars of health services that include service delivery, regulation, financing and governance.
Aside from rabies, other cases being considered in other parts of the country for declaration as “free” are malaria, leprosy, and schistosomiasis.
The province of La Union is a candidate to be declared malaria-free by the end of the year. #
