Alaminos slaughterhouse wins national award
ALAMINOS CITY—The slaughterhouse here has been adjudged the 2007 Best Meat Establishment throughout the country during the recent celebration of Meat Safety Consciousness Week.
The Alaminos City Abattoir (ACA), also known as Don Leopoldo Alcedo Slaughterhouse, won under the double “AA” accredited local government unit (LGU)-slaughterhouse category, besting three other top competitors, namely: Imus (Cavite) Municipal Slaughterhouse, Manolo Fortich (Bukidnon) Municipal Slaughterhouse, and Moncada (Tarlac) Municipal Slaughterhouse.
“This recognition is the fruit of Mayor Hernani Braganza administration’s long-term program and commitment in extending quality service to the 85,000 Alaminians,” said Dr. Ronald Abarra, city veterinarian.
Abarra said this accomplishment boosts the city government’s vision of a Hot Meat Free- Alaminos in the next three years.
The city abattoir is the only LGU-owned slaughterhouse to be included in the elite group of ‘AA’ abattoir nationwide.
It is the first time that the city slaughterhouse won the national award but it has consistently been recognized as Region I’s best in the same level for four years since 2003.
The award is based on compliance to the rules and requirements set by a national inter-agency committee tasked with the “Search for the Best Meat Establishment.”
Members of the inter-agency committee’s award giving body include the Department of Agriculture-National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS), Department of Health, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and the Department of Interior and Local Government.
Meanwhile, the city was also recently awarded for the third time for Good Manufacturing Practice accreditation from the NMIS Region I. #
