URBIZTONDO–The scenario is all too common in many of the country’s public schools: dilapidated buildings, children cramped in classrooms, or shortened classes in order to accommodate the student population.

In the Second District of Pangasinan, this situation holds true in about 60% of the public schools, according to a report by Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Alma Ruby Torio.

Torio made the report to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, which held its second out-of-town session in Urbiztondo.

Second district Board Member Von Mark Mendoza told The PUNCH that he and the rest of the SP members, led by Vice Governor Marlyn Agabas, had a dialogue with the Second District mayors Monday and were told of the area’s immediate concerns, which includes the repair of public school facilities.

Other matters that were taken up include road improvement and health services.

The dialogue was hosted by Board Member Raul Sison of this town, who is also the president of the Pangasinan Councilors League.

Agabas said the provincial government, led by Governor Amado Espino Jr., is committed to addressing the problems by looking into possible funding sources. #
