LINGAYEN, Pangasinan– Gov. Amado Espino Jr. urged the youth of Pangasinan to value their rich historical and cultural heritage as a people even as they remain focused on their dreams for the future.

Espino spoke before some 6,000 senior Girl Scouts who participated in a “rally for environment” and a ceremony called “Girl Scouts Salute the Governor” held at the Narciso Ramos Sports Center stadium here.

Espino said while getting a good grip of emerging trends in the world manifests growth, forgetting the lessons of the past will only retard the young’s quest for advancement as they take on the challenges of the 21st Century.

“The splendid values and traditions handed down to us by our forefathers make us aware and proud of our identity as a people, make us stronger in character, traits that are vital in our attainment of our objectives in life,” Espino said.

The event, dubbed as “The Long Green Line for Peace and Unity,” drew one of the biggest crowds of elementary and high school female students who represented their schools from different parts of the province.

It kicked off the Girl Scout Week celebration under the theme “Discover Your Potentials.”
