SAN FABIAN–A graft investigator for the Office of the Ombudsman was gunned down early Monday morning here by still unidentified men believed to have been hired out of personal vendetta.

A special police task force has been formed to investigate the murder of lawyer Alejo “Alex” Dojillo, 43, a resident of barangay Nibaliw Vidal here who worked for the Ombudsman’s office in Manila.

Senior Superintendent Isagani Nerez, police provincial director, told local newsmen that they already have good leads and expressed optimism that they will soon be able to get to the bottom of the crime.

Dojillo, son of retired Olongapo City Judge Jaime Dojillo and brother of Manaoag Judge Jaime Dojillo Jr., was on board a tricycle headed for the Five Star bus station around 2:30 a.m. to catch the first trip to Manila when he was fired at by two men riding tandem on a motorcycle.

He was hit five times at the back and the police recovered seven empty shells and four deformed slugs from a caliber .45.

Dojillo’s wife, Maricar, called on the police to hasten the investigation even as she stressed that the motive behind the killing is most likely personal.

Maricar said she does not know of any work-related threats received by her husband and that he was happy with his job.

“It’s more personal,” she said, but declined to elaborate.

Nonetheless, Nerez said they are also looking into cases handled by the victim.

The police have also discounted politics even if the victim’s younger brother is planning to run as barangay chairman in the October elections.

Dojillo’s children, Ailce, 20, Jaela, 19, and Lex, 15, said they hope karma will soon catch up with the suspects and the mastermind.

GUNS-FOR-HIRE

Meanwhile, Chief Superintendent Leopoldo Bataoil, police regional director, said he is counting on Task Force Dojillo to solve the murder soon.

Bataoil has also given orders for the renewed neutralization of guns-for hire.

Dojillo’s remains lie in state at their family residence. Interment will be on September 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Bonuan Binloc, Dagupan City.
