IT is all systems go for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on October 29.

This was confirmed by the Commission on Election (Comelec) office in Dagupan.

“We are prepared,” said lawyer Reddy Balarbar, provincial Comelec supervisor.

Meanwhile, Dagupan City Election Officer Remarque Ravanzo said his office already received a copy of Comelec Resolution 8301 advancing the date of filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) to September 14 to 19 from October 11 to 18, a clear indication that the local election will push through as scheduled.

The Comelec resolution, promulgated Friday, also sets the election gun ban dates from September 14 to November 13.

There   is   a   pending resolution before the House of Representatives seeking a postponement of the polls.

“We are now preparing the list of voters and checking names of voters who registered twice or had multiple registrations for expulsion from the list,” said Ravanzo

He also said Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos has given assurance that the P2.3 billion fund is available for the polls, disputing previous pronouncements that the government has no money for the exercise.

Prospective candidates for the Barangay and SK elections have begun to swamp the Comelec offices around the province to get forms for their COC.

“They’re so excited,” said Balarbar, who admitted that the sudden change in schedule have caught them off guard and are now frantic securing the COC copies for their filing.

Nonetheless, he said they are coping with the influx. –LM
