Food poisoning downs 44 kids

At least 44 people here were confined at the Malasiqui District Hospital or treated at the Talospatang Health Center for food poisoning after attending a birthday party where the food served was apparently already spoiled.

The father of the one-year old birthday celebrator, Val Queñano, apologized for what happened, saying they did not know that the food they served was no longer good for consumption.

Most of the victims were children.

Mayor Armando Domantay told The PUNCH that the victims were brought to the government-owned hospital from Thursday to Saturday.

Meanwhile, three other cases of food poisoning were recorded in the same hospital Saturday after a family in Barangay Alacan ate canned sardines believed to be already expired.

The mayor ordered the hospital management to give consideration to the indigent patients by giving free medication upon learning that a number of the victims decided to defer treatment at the hospital since the families didn’t have the money to pay for the prescribed medicines.
