Some selected fifty community leaders from various sectors in Sta. Barbara will meet for a three-day Planning and Visioning Workshop on August 28-30 to set the direction for the town.

Mayor Reynaldo Velasco said the strategic planning workshop will be facilitated by the University of the Philippines Public Administration Research and Extension Services Foundation, Inc. (UPPAF) and the Center for Local and Regional Governance (CLRG).

Among the objectives of the seminar include the formulation of a vision and mission statement for Sta. Barbara, the identification of the town’s basic strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) and the strategic actions that the municipal government shall take.

“I want to jumpstart the town’s development agenda based on the inputs of the participants and output of the strategic planning workshop that will more or less jive with the 10-point agenda which I have presented to the people in the campaign,” Velasco said.

Sta. Barbara’s 10-point action plan is anchored on the acrostic REY VELASCO which stands for: Reform in governance; Education for all; Youth and Sports Development; Values formation and strengthening; Environmental Care and Protection; Livelihood programs and jobs creation; Agricultural Productivity; Social and health services; Community Partnership; and, Order and peace.

He stressed the importance of the workshop, a “first” in Sta. Barbara, as he unveiled his plan to tap another UP group for the town’s land use plan before embarking on a master development blueprint with the help of Palafox Associates.
