Slaying of LU bursar deplored
LINGAYEN-Provincial Treasurer Ramon Crisostomo has deplored the gunslaying of the municipal treasurer of Bauang, La Union on August 6 in broad daylight.
Crisostomo, president of the Region 1 Association of Treasurers and Assessors, called for the speedy investigation of the slaying of Felicidad Picar, 52, by a lone gunman who was arrested by the police minutes after the crime.
Director Peter Baluyan of the Bureau of Local Government Finance of the Department of Finance, the agency that supervises all municipal, city and provincial treasurers, echoed the call.
Baluyan and La Union Provincial Treasurer Peter Estigoy have personally asked Police Regional Director Chief Superintendent Leopoldo Bataoil and La Union Provincial Director Sr. Supt. Frank Bucayu to order a speedy investigation of the case.
Arrested by the police after a brief chief was Rogelio Orduna, who first introduced himself as Rogelio Albay, a suspected hired killer.
Crisostomo said Picar, a widow, and the rest of municipal treasurers in the second district of La Union received death threats from unknown persons since after the May 14 election.—LM
