Police chief hailed for arresting 16 pushers
The Dagupan police scored big this week in their campaign against illegal drugs as 16 drug pushers were arrested in separate raids in just one day.
In recognition of this accomplishment, the city council passed a resolution on Tuesday commending the new officer-in-charge of the Dagupan Police, Supt. Dionisio Borromeo, and his men for a job well done.
Councilors Luis Samson Jr. and Danilo Torio, chairman and vice chairman, respectively of the city council’s committee on peace and order, filed the resolution and supported by Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, who is set to be appointed by Mayor Alipio Fernandez, Jr. as executive director of the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC).
Borromeo assumed his post only on two weeks ago.
Those arrested on August 17 at sitio Aling on Arellano Street were Leandro Ramos, Roberto Mejia, Mario Senin, Cabbos Velasco, Norma Mangashas, Ronnie Bermudez, Vilma Roxas, Florentino Senin and Mario Rullan.
On the same day those arrested were Ciriaco Quisora, Gemma Calimlim, Gina Calimlim and one Rommel delos Santos.
In an interview on Wednesday, Vice Mayor Fernandez said Borromeo is probably the only police chief ever assigned to Dagupan who was able to accomplish such a feat, arresting16 drug pushers in just one day.
“In behalf of the city council, I am appealing to the OIC chief of police to continue the good work that he had started until Dagupan City is finally freed of illegal drugs,” she said.
“I will not object if Mayor Al Fernandez will make his appointment as chief of police permanent,” she added.
Vice Mayor Fernandez said she expects to work closely with Borromeo soon as Mayor Fernandez formalizes her appointment as CADAC executive director through an executive order.
CADAC is a body that aims to integrate the efforts of the government and the private sector to educate and inform citizens, especially the youth, on the evils of drug addiction—LM
