Pangasinan riders rule Guam cycling race
Pangasinan has again proven its status as a nesting ground for cycling champions.
Two more Pangasinense riders conquered the short but prestigious Guam Cycling Federation last Sunday, clocking in records way ahead of their competitors.
Using their international experiences, cohesiveness plus grit force, Mangaldan born and two-time Olympian Jazy Fernandez Garcia and Australian-trained rider Paul Ballesteros, a son of Pozorrubio, displayed their superiority in Guam’s bicycle racing by scoring a 1-2 Pangasinan finish out pedaling 33 others to the delight of Filipino spectators.
Garcia made a daring breakaway after the fifth of 20 rounds and never looked back to finish all by his lonesome despite the relentless pursuit of the three-man second pack. Garcia completed the 40 kilometers (two-kilometer per round) Guam circuit in 58 minutes and 42 seconds.
Ballesteros outsprinted his two second group partners half a minute off compatriot Garcia to bag second place.
Americans Derek Horton and Fred Graylanded third and fourth respectively.–JAGJr.
