New jail warden fights drug dealing
LINGAYEN–Murder, illegal drugs and rape.
These three top the crime cases faced by inmates behind the bars of the provincial jail but drug dealing has been one of the recurring problems inside the prison walls.
Retired police Senior Superintendent Rolando Diaz, the new provincial jail warden who assumed his post last month, said he has already initiated several measures to address the issue.
He said a strict body and bags checking of visitors, surprise inspections in cells, as well as having biblical lectures by a religious group are among the measures instituted recently.
He added that the inmates are also encouraged to engage in livelihood activities while inside their detention cells.
Of the 303 locked up, 109 are charged with murder 71 for violation of the law against illegal drugs, and 55 for rape. Theft, frustrated murder and homicide account for the rest. #
