A PUBLIC awareness campaign was conducted in Dagupan to enjoin the local government unit, livestock traders and consumers to shore up support for the Foot and Mouth Disease Eradication Program.

The campaign is in line with the Department of Agriculture’s aim of getting a stamp of recognition from the World Animal Health Organization by next year that mainland Luzon is FMD-free.

Among the activities held included motorcade urging livestock traders to express their support by having their vehicles accredited by the BAI, the acquisition of a Livestock Handler’s License and securing pertinent shipment documents (veterinary health certificate and shipping permit) prior to transport of their livestock.

It was emphasized that Animal Movement Management is a critical tool in the prevention of animal diseases such as FMD.

A mall tour was also held at the CSI City Mall in Lucao, Dagupan City to drum up support among consumers reminding them of their right to clean and safe meat.

The activities were spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Unit 1 and the Pangasinan Provincial Veterinary Office, in coordination with the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI).

The program was attended by Dagupan City Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, Ryan Ravanzo of the City Information Office, and staff of the Pangasinan PVO and DARFU-1. #
