LINGAYEN–Dengue cases are on the rise.

Six persons have died of dengue hemorrhagic fever and 242 others are suspected to be affected, according to data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

Dr. Anna Theresa de Guzman, deputy provincial health officer, said Wednesday that the first three died of the mosquito-borne disease in previous months.

The first three casualties were from Anda, Dasol and Lingayen.

This number suddenly rose last week to six, when three victims from Malasiqui, Villasis and Urdaneta City were reported.

De Guzman called on the people to immediately consult a doctor once they have fever. Based on their findings, those who died failed to seek medical help early on.

This infectious disease is manifested by a sudden onset of fever, with severe headache, muscle and joint pains – severe pain gives it the name break-bone fever or bonecrusher disease) and rashes.

De Guzman said among the areas reported with high dengue cases are Alaminos City (60), Dagupan City (38), San Carlos City (19), Anda (14) and Calasiao (9).
