De Venecia dared to run for President again

ANOTHER try for the presidency by House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. in 2010?

Why not, if you ask former Constitutional Convention Delegate Luis Catubig.

Catubig believes that De Venecia has more experience compared to other presidentiables and has the needed skills to manage the affairs of the country.

A long-time ally of De Venecia, Catubig said the house speaker has already done much for the country during his long political career.

De Venecia, who ran for president in 1998 but lost to Joseph Estrada, is now on his third and last term as congressman of the 4th District and concurrently on his fifth term as speaker.

In urging De Venecia to run for president again, Catubig cited the Overseas Filipino Remittance Program which was De Venecia’s brainchild and adopted by the late President Marcos. This, he said, is now a major source in sustaining the national economy.

At the same time, Catubig said De Venecia was the one who started the deployment of Filipino workers in the Middle East in the ’70s.

Catubig, who also served as Dagupan City councilor and appointed vice mayor, said another proposal of  De Venecia that is now building the national infrastructure of the country is the Build Operate Transfer Law (BOT) of which he was the principal author, and is respected leader here and abroad who has a vision to make the country prosperous and progressive.#
