Dagupan issues advisory for flood-prone barangays
The Dagupan city health office has issued a health advisory reminding residents of flood-prone areas on how to prevent rainy season diseases such as gastroenteritis, typhoid fever, cholera, dengue and hepatitis A.
In order to prevent such diseases, city health officer Leonard Carbonell said Dagupenos should:
1. Boil or chlorinate drinking water
2. Wash hands before preparing food and after using the toilet
3. Avoid wading in floodwater
4. Clean up all possible mosquito-breeding areas.
For flooded areas, the following tips were issued:
1. Stay indoors as much as possible
2. Avoid wading in floodwater
3. Once a flood advisory is issued, residents of low-lying areas should immediately move to higher ground
4. Avoid crossing low-lying areas and bridges during evacuation
Carbonell also warned the public against water-borne diseases, especially leptospirosis. This is present in floodwater contaminated with urine of infected animals, especially rats. #
