Dagupan City cited for disaster preparedness
THE Dagupan City Disaster Coordinating Council has been given the Gawad Kalasag Award, the highest honor given by the national government to top performing disaster management councils.
Mayor Alipio Ferrnandez received the award from La Union Provincial Administrator Geofrey Dilan during an awards ceremony last July 31 at Camp Oscar Florendo in San Fernando, La Union.
“I hope that this achievement will inspire the City Disaster Coordinating Council to continue performing well,” Fernandez said.
In the same ceremony, Mangin, headed by Barangay Captain Arsenio Esguerra, was also adjudged as having the Best Barangay Disaster Coordinating Council in rural barangay category.
The award recognized Dagupan as the Best Performing Local Disaster Coordinating Council (LDCC), for its performance during Mayor Benjamin Lim’s administration, in the highly urbanized and independent city category.
Dagupan CDCC was also recognized by the National Disaster Coordinating Council for its outstanding performance in providing humanitarian assistance and as a major partner of the national government in initiating disaster management programs and activities.
Fernandez also thanked the residents and some non-governmental groups for their consistent support to the city’s government’s disaster preparedness campaign.
The city garnered a score pf 97.5% based on the following criteria: mitigation, preparedness, response and rehabilitation.
