Resuello slaying still a puzzle
LINGAYEN–Two months after then San Carlos Mayor Julian Resuello was assassinated, the case appears to be nowhere near a solution.
Police Regional Director Superintendent Leopoldo Bataoil, in a talk to newsmen on Thursday, said the special task force created to handle the case continues with their earnest investigation of the case even as he pointed out that the gunman who shot Resuello whom they had arrested soon after the crime, remain behind bars.
Angelito Soriano, a native of adjacent Malasiqui, was positive of powder burns when paraffin-tested by the police shortly after he was arrested by the police while seeking treatment in a local hospital in San Carlos City.
Soriano was also positively identified by the wounded SPO2 Jaime Almoite who managed to hit him back after Mayor Resuello fell.
The other suspected gunman is Cesar de Guzman, alia “Cabesa”, who remains at large and has become the most wanted man in Pangasinan. The reward money for his capture dead or alive was raised to P550,000 as of last week.
The police recently expanded their manhunt forDe Guzman to Metro Manila and the Visayas as the suspect can no longer be located in Pangasinan.
APILADO CASE
Meanwhile, Police Provincial Director Isagani Nerez revealed that since the cartographic sketches of the suspects involved in the June 20 slaying of San Manuel Vice Mayor Bonie Apilado were released, the police have been swamped with information helping to identify the gunmen.
Nerez said members of Task Force Apilado he created are presently evaluating all the information received so far.
He added that elements of the Provincial Mobile Group and the Regional Mobile Group will remain in San Manuel as the emotions there remain high.
The replaced 17-man police force led by Inspector Realito Rodriguez have been sent to Lingayen to undergo re-training.—LM
