THE Police Regional Office has a new mission: promote the habit of saving for the future.

Chief Superintendent Leopoldo Bataoil, Police Regional Director, said the new advocacy is in line with the belief that young citizens, especially students, who learn the value of savings will be dissuaded from engaging in illegal gambling activities.

“We are not only concerned in law-enforcement but also in promoting the advocacy of saving for the future as another form of responding to the problem of illegal gambling,” Bataoil explained.

Some 800 students from various schools in Dagupan attended a symposium on Monday conducted by the Police Regional Office that stressed the culture of saving for the future.

The forum is part of the ”Talakayan sa Isyu ng Pulis (TSIP)”, a forum project initiated by Bataoil aimed at reaching out to the citizens to  discuss issues on peace and order and other relevant subjects.

Held at the West Central School in Dagupan, Bataoil was joined by Police Provincial Director Senior Superintendent Isagani Nerez and officials of the Department of Education.

The activity seeking to inculcate upon the young minds the value of saving money is expected to help them develop a sense of dignity in labor and respect for hard work.

The symposium was co-sponsored by the Pangasinan PNP Press Corps and the local Kiwanis Club.

Bataoil taught the school children to value every peso given by their parents as their school allowance because the money is the fruit of their own labor, sweat and tears.

He called on students not to bet their allowance on video gambling games, ‘cara y cruz’ and other games of chance.

At the end of the symposium, Bataoil distributed piggy banks to the students.

“We hope that now and in the near future, we will be able to able to restore in next generation a lifestyle that values savings,” Bataoil said.—LM
