Mayor Perez elected LCP veep for Luzon
URDANETA City Mayor Amadeo Perez, Jr. was elected vice president for Luzon of the League of Cities of the Philippines in a historic election held at the Traders Hotel in Manila on Sunday.
Perez and Candon City Mayor Allen Singson were the only city executives from Northern Luzon elected to the LCP Executive Board.
In that election, which was described as unprecedented, Mandaluyong Mayor Benhur Abalos was unanimously elected president along with other officers of the National Executive Board for a three-year term.
Perez said, “That was the first time in LCP history that we were united under one leadership and this happened only now since Mayor Abalos was the overwhelming choice of the city mayors.”
Other LCP officers are past LCP President Mayor Jerry Trenas of Iloilo City who is now LCP chairman; Evelio Leonardia, vice chairman; Alfonso Casurra of Surigao City, executive vice president; Abraham Tolentino of Tagaytay City, treasurer; Marides Fernando of Marikina City, vice president for Metro Manila; Hector Villanueva of Bais, vice president for Visayas; and
Pedro Acharon of General Santos City, vice president for Mindanao. Calbayog City Mayor Mel Senen Sarmiento retained his position as LCP secretary-general while Mayors Singson (Allen) of Candon City, Arlene Zambo of Toledo Cityand Jennifer Tan of Tangub were elected deputy secretary generals for Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, respectively.
City Mayors chosen by LCP as point persons for key issues are: former LCP Chairman Edward Hagedorn of Puerto Princesa for environment; Nestor Alvarez of the Science City of Munoz, for UN Millennium Development Goals; Eric Saratan of Talisay City, for Health; Muslimina Sema of Cotabato City, for Muslim Affairs; and Linda Gonzales of Ligao City, for the Women Sector.—LM
