DAGUPAN City Mayor Alipio Fernandez has outlined social development and fiscal management as the centerpieces of his administration for the next three years.

Fernandez spelled this out in a talk with newsmen shortly after assuming his post on Monday.

The new mayor said he intends to be able to allocate more of the city’s resources to various sectors of the society, like the senior citizens whom he referred to as “seasoned citizens”.

“We must be very strong in social development programs, in enforcement and orderliness,” Fernandez said.

Fernandez, however, clarified that the enforcement and orderliness within the city” should jibe with and give access to livelihood.

“I am committed to the economic upliftment of our fellow Dagupenos,” he said.

He said that his administration will address concerns in education starting from pre-school, and will support enhanced training and improved facilities for teachers.

Fernandez said he is currently reviewing, in coordination with the heads of various departments of the city government, the terminal report submitted by the previous administration.

Fernandez pledged to restore Dagupan to its first class status after being relegated to second class five years ago.

“Bringing back Dagupan to first class status is a reachable objective. We are reaching out to all sectors for coordination, cooperation and team work,” Fernandez said.

Fernandez has so far appointed his son, former Vice Mayor Alvin Fernandez as his administrator; retired Regional Trial Judge George Mejia as city legal officer; and Ryan Ravanzo as city information officer.

The new mayor was reported to have extended the appointment of Butch Gutierrez as head of the Task Force Anti-Hawking of the mayor’s office; and Robert Erfe Mejia as temporary chief of the Public Order and Safety Office until the latter’s successor is appointed.

Fernandez is currently having difficulty appointing more of his selected supporters since all the vacant positions in the city government were filled up by his predecessor before stepping out of office—.LM
