LINGAYEN–Sr. Supt. Isagani Nerez, police provincial director, has called on the people to help them find the three suspects in the gunslaying of San  Manuel Vice Mayor Bonie Apilado and the wounding of his bodyguard driver in Urdaneta City last June 20.

The appeal came following the release of the cartographic sketches of the three suspects with a reward of P100,000 each

The cartographic sketches were presented early this week to the media through the help of an artist by the provincial Criminal Investigation and Detection Group led by Supt. Manuel Velasco based on an eyewitness’ testimony.

Velasco said the suspects are believed to be still in the province.

Nerez said they are following up good leads but declined to divulge these so as not to preempt the ongoing investigation and pursuit operation.

Apilado sustained multiple gun shot wounds from caliber .45 while his bodyguard-driver, Ricardo Clemente, survived the attack and is now under protective police custody.

NEW POLICE CHIEF

In a related development, Chief Supt. Leopoldo Bataoil, police regional director, ordered the relief Friday of the town police chief here and the whole town police force for retraining following Apilado’s killing and to pave the way for an impartial investigation.

Elements of the 107th Provincial Mobile Group and Regional Mobile Group are now in charge of the town police station.

The new police chief is Supt. Cornelio Comila, he replaced Vice Insp. Realito Rodriguez.

Bataoil said he inspected the police station last week together with Nerez and said, “We were dismayed on the upkeep and readiness of the unit.”

Nerez said the entire police force was relieved “to elevate community confidence on the San Manuel police station”.—EVA
