Dagupan police destroy 27 hataw machines
Here’s piece of good news for parents.
The Dagupan City police destroyed on Monday afternoon the 27 illegal video machines locally known as hataw or ameneng, earlier confiscated from establishments operating near schools.
Hataw, considered a poor man’s slot machine, has reportedly lured many students in the city to gamble.
The bettor drops a P1 coin for a chance to hit the winning combination and win cash.
Supt. Edgar Basbas, city police chief, said the campaign is part of their Back-to-School program ridding the city of these illegal video machines.
About P3,000 worth of coins were recovered inside the confiscated machines.
Basbas said this amount will be added to the scholarship fund set up by the police for underprivileged children.
The illegal gambling machines were seized from different barangays and Basbas said no one has claimed ownership. He added this is just their opening salvo and warned operators to stop their illegal activity because they will spare no one.-EVA
