Asingan VM still at-large
ASINGAN—A barangay chairman and a sister of the new vice mayor here were arrested July 13 for their alleged participation in a large-scale estafa case involving a multi-million peso land deal investment.
However, Vice Mayor Mila Piso Antonio, tagged as the main suspect in the anomalous land deal, remains at large.
Arrested were Barangay Captain Rogelio Estrada of Poblacion East this town and Antonio’s sister, Merla Faye Velasco, 26, of Barangay Domampot also of this town.
Senior Superintendent Noli Taliño, chief of the Regional Intelligence Division in San Fernando City, La Union, told The PUNCH that his team and the local police arrested the two suspects separately on the same day.
Both Estrada and Velasco were subjects of separate arrest warrants issued by Judge Aurelio Ralar Jr. of the Regional Trial Court branch 48 in Urdaneta City with no bail bond recommended.
Antonio is also included in the said arrest warrant, as well as in two other arrest warrants issued separately by Judges Tita Villarin and Jovencio Costales of regional trial courts 46 and 45, respectively, in Urdaneta City, also involving the said land deal scam with different complainants.
Antonio went into hiding immediately after winning the May election following the filing of several complaints against her.
Taliño said they are optimistic Antonio will soon be arrested.
The vice mayor is accused by the complainants of having collected about P60 million from them.
Also included in the other warrant is Antonio’s companion, a certain Lourdes Dioquino, Taliño said.
Warrants have yet to be issued for other suspects.—EVA
