Week-long 60th ‘Agew na Dagupan’ slated

THE Dagupan City Government will celebrate the 60th Agew na Dagupan with a week-long activities which will start with the observance of the 109th Independence Day on June 12.

Anchored on the theme “60 Glorious Years,” the Independence Day celebration will be led by Mayor Benjamin Lim who will head the floral offering at the monument of Dr. Jose P. Rizal and preside over the oath taking of 35 high school student leaders chosen for the Ogogaw ya Manlinkor, recognition for “Dagupan’s young leaders.”

A showcase of original Pangasinan songs and dances dubbed Cansion tan Sayaw na Pangasinan will be presented in the evening.

On June 13, talented men and women in uniform will try to outperform each other during a unique talent show dubbed “Action in Focus”.

The Dagupan Music Artists Guild will host a concert called Malaineng ya Arte na Dagupan on June 14, 7 pm, at the city plaza.

San Miguel Corporation will stage a free rock concert on June 15, 7 pm, also at the city plaza, while a seminar public and private school teachers called “I Love Museum” will be held on June 16.

Filipino-Chinese residents will also highlight their contributions to the city showcasing Chinese music, dance and fashion at the City Plaza on June 16.

Performances and exhibition of the University of Luzon’s multi-awarded drum and bugle corps will entertain spectators alongside a cultural show on June 17, 8 pm, at the City Plaza.

The city government will provide people with disabilities a chance to show their talents on the “Sarag mi Met” event set on June 18 at the City Plaza.

Dagupeño students will tackle trivia questions about the city during the “Sukata’y Talisiw” academic competition on the same day at the City Plaza.

On June 19, Dagupeños will pay tribute to the national hero by unveiling three versions of the Mi Ultimo Adios at the Rizal Shrine. Shortly after, participants will proceed to the city’s water tank site for the unveiling of marker and wall photos in commemoration of the centenary of Dagupan’s water tank.

Young Dagupeñas clad in Filipiniana costumes will be escorted by the city’s 31 barangay captains during the Parada’y Barangay along the downtown area, also on June 19.

On June 20, the Agew na Dagupan, the city government will hold the Agew na Dagupan Night at the People’s Astrodome where chorale groups from various colleges and universities in the city will sing Pangasinan songs with a recorded accompaniment by the Philippine Pop Orchestra.

The main highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Ten Outstanding Dagupeños who have made significant contributions to the city.

City residents will also get a chance to take a peek at the city’s glorious past through a memorabilia exhibit that will be simultaneously displayed at the Edades Hall, City Museum and City Hall.

There will be an ecumenical prayer participated in by different religious organizations ad a bloodletting activity by the Philippine National Red Cross.

The event will also highlight the oath taking of the city’s newly elected officials at 10 am.

A food bazaar will be set up around the City Plaza from June 12 to 20.
