THE University of Pangasinan hosted a regional three-day seminar for international basketball referees with the country’s foremost international referee authority Anthony Sulit as main lecturer and facilitator last May 25 to 27.

Sulit is also recognized by the Federation of International Basketball, the world governing body of amateur basketball and has officiated some games between the RP and PBAP at the Araneta Coliseum.

Angel Gumarang, UPANG sports director and Region 1 commissioner for the National Referees Commission (NARESCOM), said the university’s hosting of “the highly informative and lively seminar was an eye-opener to the participants who have learned new rules in international basketball refereeing.”

Sulit, the highest internationally-ranked Filipino referee, was accompanied by national referees commissioner Roger Basilio, NARESCOM officials Jun Amado, Ferdinand Mangonon, Phil Celi and former Tour of Luzon cycling champion cum basketball referee Jesus Garcia Jr.

       The Sangguniang Panlungsod, headed by Vice Mayor Alvin Fernandez, was co-sponsor of the seminar.
