Eight outstanding Dagupeños honored

EIGHT Dagupenos who excelled in their chosen fields of endeavor were honored by the city government during the culminating activity of the 60th Agew na Dagupan held at the People’s Astrodome on June 20.

Named outstanding Dagupeños were Julius Ceasar Babao, broadcast journalist and co-host of “Triple X” program on TV, for Mass Media category; Dr. Salvador Duque, for Humanities; Mayor Jose Esteves of Milpitas, California, USA, for Public Administration; Dr. Gil Cabal Fernandez, for Medicine; Dr. Perla Elinzano Legaspi, Education; and Atty. Rodolfo Urbiztondo, Law.

Two of the awards were given posthumously. These were for the late Alberto Abulencia who was recognized in the field of Fine Arts and the late Msgr. Leon Bitanga, for Religious Ministry.

Special awards were given to Mrs. Emiliana Embuido, a retired public school teacher of Bonuan Boquig, who was adjudged as the oldest Dagupena at 102 years and newly born Jayvee James Daroy who was conferred the Dagupan Diamond Anniversary Baby Award.

The awards to outstanding Dagupenos are presented every five years.

Mrs. Embuido was gifted with awarded P1,000 cash, one year supply of adult diapers and a certificate of recognition by City Mayor Benjamin Lim, and former Vice Mayor Felipe Siapno, president of the Dagupan City Senior Citizens, The Diamond Baby was given a plaque of recognition, cash prize, one year supply of diapers and full immunization.

The awardees were chosen by a selection committee headed by Schools Division Superintendent Aurora Domingo in recognition of their exemplary achievements in their chosen fields.

Other members of the special selection committee were City Engineer Virginia Rosario, City Prosecutor Pelagio Palma, Regional Trial Court Judge Rolando Mislang, Municipal Trial Court Judge Edgardo Caldona, City Health Officer Leonard Carbonnel, Atty. Joven Maramba and Leu Paragas.

Awards committee in-charge are Nora Siapno, Ma. Carmen Prieto, Jorge Estrada, Leon Palaganas and Rufina Meneses.
