Task Force takes over San Carlos City
SAN CARLOS CITY — A task force has been formed to administer the day-to-day affairs of the San Carlos City government after having been placed under the control of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
The task force is headed by Provincial Elections Supervisor Reddy Balarbar with newly installed San Carlos City Election Officer Remarque Ravanzo and Police Provincial Director Isagani Nerez, a lawyer, as members.
Ravanzo said as a member of the Task Force San Carlos City, his duties will now include administering the affairs of the Local Government Unit (LGU) in addition to his regular work as city election officer.
Newly installed Mayor Julier Resuello, son of the slain mayor, said the Comelec’s control over the LGU has not diminished his function as city chief executive.
He lamented, however, that despite the deployment of additional troops to the city, armed goons are still going around and destroying their campaign posters.
Ravanzo was personally installed on Tuesday as election officer of SanCarlos City by Comelec Commissioner Romeo A. Brawner, along with Provincial Elections Supervisor Reddy Balarbar.
Balarbar took over from fellow lawyer Vanessa Micu-Roncal who, on the following day, was in turn installed as new election officer of Dagupan City.
Brawner, the Comelec Commissioner in charge of Region 1, was in San Carlos City on Monday, together with Balarbar and Police Provincial Director Isagani Nerez, to meet members of the city council and department heads of the city government where he announced the impending declaration of San Carlos City under Comelec control.
Brawner told department heads of the local government unit here, “As your commissioner in charge of Region 1, I wish to announce this afternoon that we have no recourse in the Comelec but to declare San Carlos City under Comelec control.
