SAN CARLOS CITY—A priest from the St. Dominic Church here refers to the new mayor of San Carlos City as “Spiderman” a.k.a. Peter Parker, who, he said, inherited his web from his dead father.

Fr. Jaime Catungal said in his homily during a Holy Mass for the slain Mayor Julian Resuello that the dead Mayor is one of the heroes of San Carlos City.

Then he turned to Julier, nicknamed ‘Ayoy’, and said” “You inherited the mayorship from your father and the people of San Carlos City.”

Ayoy, 28, became mayor when his father was slain on April 28 while on the campaign trail. Few days ago, he was given a resounding mandate to govern San Carlos City for the next three years along with his younger brother Joseres, 24, who substituted for their father and won as vice mayor.

An ardent fan of Spiderman movies, Father Catungal related all three installments in the Spiderman series to convey the message across to Ayoy that he should be a good leader to his people.

He advised Ayoy to “put the people at the top of the priority list of what you are thinking now”, adding that this was what his slain father actually did which endeared him to his people.

But for the young Resuello to do this, he said, it is time for him to mature and to give up his youth, like what Spiderman in the movies did.

“It takes a lot of reflection, prayers and maturity for the decision you have to give to the people,” the priest said.

Father Catungal advised Julier not to be overwhelmed by money, power and girls as he might lose the “web”, adding   that   his   father, during his nine-year reign as mayor of San Carlos City “was very focused”.

In Spiderman III, he said, Spiderman was to wears either the black suit or the red suit. A black suit signifies vengeance while in the red suite Peter Parker turns hero again.

“I see goodness in you. I see how loving you are. I see that you’re committed to your work. Then wear the best suit,” Fr. Catungal prompted the young Resuello—LM
