Lims’ petition for disqualification redirected to prov’l election office
ROUND ONE
THE petition for disqualification filed by father and son Benjamin and Brian Lim against House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. that the latter’s lawyer filed last Friday before the Commission on Elections in Manila was rejected and instead re-directed its filing with another office.
This was disclosed by Atty. Raul Lambino, legal counsel of Lakas-Christian Democrats and De Venecia himself, saying the lawyer of the petitioners was told to file the petition before the Office of the Provincial Elections Supervisor (PES) in Dagupan City.
The case was in connection with the alleged distribution of insurance cards by De Venecia valued at P110,000 coverage.
Lambino, who was at the Comelec office, told the PUNCH before deadline that Comelec in Manila did not entertain the petition and told the petitioners to return to Dagupan City and file it before the office of Provincial Elections Supervisor Reddy Balarbar.
Upon receipt of the petition, the PES may conduct the corresponding investigation and if necessary, may require the respondent, to file answer to the petition after which the PES may decide on the petition or elevate the matter to Comelec in Manila.
Lambino charged that the petition is “a nuisance suit, completely baseless and unfounded”.
He claimed that during the campaign, the party can legally give membership cards to its campaigners and with it the corresponding insurance
The spokesmen of Mayor Lim could not be reached at presstime for reaction.
