Four other mayors seek protection
LINGAYEN–The killings have only begun.
Four more mayors in Pangasinan are reportedly marked for liquidation after hired guns succeeded in assassinating San Carlos City Mayor Julian Resuello last April 28.
The mayors, including Resuello, are allegedly included in the list of a group of assassins for which the supposed masterminds reportedly paid a contract price of P7 million.
Among the mayors reportedly marked for liquidation is Mayor Simplicio Rosario of Binmaley, who was supposedly targeted for killing on May 4 (Friday).
Not taking the threat lightly, Rosario had limited his movements and his political sorties that day.
Policemen were at the entrance and carefully frisked every person who entered the town hall.
The other politician allegedly marked for liquidation is newly sworn in Mayor Julier Resuello, son of the slain Julian Resuello, who admitted having been warned that he is the next likely victim of the assassins.
Names of the two other mayors marked for liquidation were not immediately known but there are indications they are from eastern Pangasinan.
The police already confirmed that those who killed Resuello were the same hired guns who killed Vice Mayor Adolfo Aquino of Mapandan in 2005.
The confirmation was made by the police after cross-matching the empty shells of a Cal. 45 pistol found inside the San Carlos City auditorium where Resuello was shot.
There were two gunmen who reportedly participated in the assassination of Resuello, including Angelito Soriano, who was already arrested, and Cesar De Guzman, who remains at large.
This disputed earlier assertion by the police that there are no locally-bred guns-for-hire in Pangasinan in this election but possibly “imported” from the other provinces.
Police Director General Oscar Calderon, who was interviewed in Lingayen on Thursday, said it is possible that both or either Soriano or De Guzman is a gun for hire.
