Alipio Fernandez Jr. has returned as mayor of Dagupan. And with majority of his team elected alongside him, he has vowed to move the city forward.

Fernandez, who served as mayor from 1992 to 2001 after which he was appointed immigration commissioner, said the new city administration that will take over at noon of June 30 “is not looking back but is moving forward”.

It was an 11-1 victory for the Fernandez team in Dagupan with Belen Fernandez as vice mayor and nine of their councilors making it to the ten slots.

The 10 winning candidates for councilors ranked in the order of votes obtained are Farah Decano, Michael Fernandez, Jesus Canto, Ma. Librada Reyna, Alfie Fernandez, Danilo Torio, Jose Netu Tamayo, Luis Samson Jr., Alfredo Quinto and Karlos Liberato Reyna IV.

Reyna is the only non-Lakas Christian Muslim Democrats candidate.

The Fernandez-Fernandez line-up was under the ruling Lakas CMD headed by House Speaker Jose de Venecia, Jr.

All the city officials were officially proclaimed by the City Board of Canvassers Thursday night.

Commenting on their overwhelming victory, Mayor-elect Fernandez said, “This is our inspiration and strength for us to do our best to steer Dagupan to its best,” as he accepted his new mandate before hundreds of supporters who filled the Dagupan Museum where the canvassing of election returns was held.

Vowing to continue whatever good projects put up by his predecessor, Fernandez said he and his fellow newly-elected officials will immediately undertake a needs-assessment, review policies, directives and circulars and recommend amendments of ordinances that will be deemed to be oppressive and obsolete.
