Death threats hound Resuello’s team
SAN CARLOS CITY—The team of slain Mayor Julian “Jolly” Resuello, including his son, now acting Mayor Julier Resuello, have been receiving death threats, an act which they described as a “desperate act” of their political enemies.
The younger Resuello and congressional candidate Rachel Arenas, daughter of socialite Baby Arenas, said in a joint press conference that they, as well as some of their councilors, have been getting text messages warning that they could suffer the same fate of the late mayor who was gunned down April 28.
One text message to Resuello read, “Nawala na ang puno (The tree is gone). You’re next.”
Resuello and Arenas said their enemies are trying to sow terrorism in the city, something that the late Resuello fought hard against.
Arenas appealed to those circulating malicious text messages to stop because they are just insulting the people of San Carlos with the disinformation drive.
“Stop circulating malicious text messages. Let the authorities do their work because the people will not believe you anyway. We will continue the will of Mayor Jolly,” she said.
Resuello said the support given by his father to Arenas’ candidacy will not waiver. Arenas is up against three other candidates, one of whom is lawyer Gallant Soriano, brother of mayoralty candidate Douglas Soriano.
Douglas, the former mayor replaced by the late Resuello, is running against the younger Resuello in this election.
Arenas referred to Jolly as the Ninoy (Aquino) of San Carlos. Lalo siyang napamahal sa mga tao at ipinapakita nila ang mahigpit na suporta (Mayor Jolly is the Ninoy of San Carlos. His death endeared him even more to the people as shown by their strong support to us).”
Resuello and his bodyguard, Eulogio Martinez, were shot inside the city auditorium during a fiesta event. Seven others were wounded in the incident.—EVA
