BANAT party-list issues debate challenge
Salvador “Buddy” Britanico, first nominee of the Barangay Associations for National Advancement and Transparency (BANAT), has challenged other party list groups to a debate on issues concerning the party-list elections.
He dared party-list groups criticizing them for voluntarily revealing to the public their nominees and accusing them on being an administration front.
BANAT recently issued the debate challenge to enlighten the public on the issues in the wake of the nuisance petitions filed before the Supreme Court by non-government organizations Bantay 7941 and Ur ban Poor for Legal Reforms regarding alleged administration supported party lists.
“Let us put the issues to rest, once and for all, with a debate among party list aspirants. We cannot take the attack on our constituents sitting down, Britanico said.
Meanwhile, BANAT also charged the Akbayan party list of being too drunk with political power, referring in particular to the “arrogance” of Rep. Loreta Ann Rosales for allegedly dictation on the Commission on Elections (Comelec) how it should to conduct its duties.
Last month, Rosales said BANAT should be disqualified from entering into the party-list race for failing to garner the required votes in 1998 and 2004. Early this month, she told Comelec to disqualify BANAT anew for being a project organized, funded and assisted by the Arroyo government.
“It is Akbayan and the other party-lists now with sitting representatives in Congress that are funded by government. What with the salaries, allowances and other perks they are now getting and have been getting since 1998, including the dreaded pork barrel funds amounting to 70-million each party-list congressman every year,” Britanico said.
