SAN CARLOS CITY–Lawyer Gallant Soriano, former deputy commissioner of the Bureau of Customs, vowed to make sports development a major part of his program to uplift the life of the people in the third district of Pangasinan.

Now campaigning for a congressional seat, Soriano was guest of honor and speaker during the culminating program of his own Galila Basketball tournament, participated in by teams from 32 barangays of the third district.

“I am athletic and sports-minded too, that is why I am happy to promote it,” he said.

He added that by helping the youth indulge and excel in sports, “we are actually steering them away from the influence of illegal drugs which destroy their future,” he said.

Soriano said he will build a sports coliseum in the third district that will be a regular venue for games for the youth and may yet become a regular venue for games of the Philippine Basketball Association.

Marlon Meneses, barangay chairman of Mabini, San Carlos City said he was glad that Soriano fulfilled his promise to sponsor the Galila Basketball Tournament.
