LINGAYEN— Members of the Rebolusyonaryong Hukbo ng Bayan (RHB), a “rejectionist” group, have reportedly extended and started their operations in the western parts of Pangasinan to raise funds for the May 14 polls, the military reported.

Lt. Colonel Gregory Cayetano, commanding officer of the 71st Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army that covers Pangasinan and parts of Nueva Ecija and Tarlac, told local media they are closely validating intelligence reports about the group’s activity for a “permit to campaign, permit to win”.

Speaking during the strategic planning conference for the May 14, 2007 elections held here on Wednesday, Cayetano said the RHB has no permanent presence in Pangasinan and only operates here when they feel pressure from the military is mounting in neighboring Zambales.

Cayetano claimed there are members of the group who are barangay officials but declined to name them even as he claimed  the government has been succeeding in their efforts to reach out to the people who were initially sympathetic to the RHB’s cause.—EVA
