Residents advised: Fight heat stroke with lots of water

Beat the summer season’s high temperature and avoid heat stroke by drinking at least eight glasses of water everyday.

Dr. Jesus Canto, former director of the Region 1 Medical Center and now a candidate for a seat in the Dagupan City Council, gave this advice to the public and warned that exposure to the hot weather may cause heat stroke that could possibly lead to death.

Canto said all everyone, especially adults, is vulnerable to heat stroke if they are exposed too long under the intense heat of the sun and even when just staying indoor where there is not enough ventilation.

He said perspiration can lead to dehydration and this can be prevented by simply drinking plenty of water.

Those who cannot avoid getting exposed to the intense heat of the sun because of their livelihood should always have with them a bottle or two of water.

Canto said heat stroke is just as lethal and life-threatening as cold stroke to people, especially among adults and those with history of heart disease.—LM
