Pangasinan politics is now a closed family affair

It’s all in the family!

A number of parent-child and husband-and-wife line-ups and a whole team of parents and a child even, are gunning for various local positions in the province in the May 14 election.

Pangasinan’s current first couple is in the race with graduating Governor Victor Agbayani vying for the second district congressional seat under the administration’s Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrates party while his wife, Dr. Jamie Agbayani, is an independent candidate for governor.

In the capital town of Lingayen, Mayor Ernesto Castañeda Jr. (Kampi-Biskeg) is running un-opposed while his daughter Sheila Castañeda-Gonzales is seeking to become a councilor.

In Dagupan City, incumbent Mayor Benjamin Lim (UNO-PDO-Laban) is challenging House Speaker Jose de Venecia as fourth district representative while his son, Brian, is running for mayor of the city.

Graduating San Carlos City Mayor Julian Resuello (Lakas-Biskeg na Pangasinan) is seeking to switch positions with his son incumbent Vice Mayor Julier Resuelo. The elder Resuello is now running for vice mayor while his son seeks to become mayor.

Urdaneta City Mayor Amadeo Perez Jr. (Nationalist People’s Coalition) is seeking his third term while his son, Amadeo Gergorio “Boboom” Perez IV is aspiring to become a councilor.

Graduating fifth district Board Member Emmanuel Carancho is seeking to succeed his daughter, Urdaneta City Vice Mayor Charizzma Salud Carancho who in turn is gunning to be a board member.

Re-electionist Binalonan Mayor Ramon Guico Jr. (Lakas), also president of the League of Municipalities of the Phi-lippines, and his son, Ramon III, now a candidate for vice mayor, are both running unopposed.

Second district Rep. Amado Espino Jr. (KAMPI) is running for governor while his son, incumbent Bautista Mayor Amado Espino III (NPC) is seeking re-election unopposed.

Calasiao Mayor Roy Macanlalay (Lakas-Biskeg) is seeking re-election with son, Mark Roy, for councilor.

Mothers now encourage their sons to enter politics like in the case of incumbent Natividad Mayor Alejandrea Supnet (NPC) seeking re-election with son Larry for councilor. Same goes for Emma Chan (Lakas), wife of outgoing Pozorrubio Mayor Artemio Chan, who is running for mayor in the hope of succeeding her husband while their son, Kelvin wants to be councilor.

In Binalonan town, couple Danilo Uy (Lakas) is running for board member of fifth district while his wife, graduating Vice Mayor Myrna Bell Uy has joined re-electionist son, Councilor Dennis Uy, in seeking post as councilor of Pozorrubio town.

Also, 3-termer Bayambang Mayor Leocadio de Vera Jr. (NPC) is running for congressman of third district while his wife, Melita de Vera is running for vice mayor as an independent bet.

Graduating sixth district Board Member Marlyn Agabas is running for vice governor under NPC while her husband, a neophyte politician, Tyrone Agabas, is aspiring to inherit his wife’s post as board member.

Fifth district Rep. Mark Cojuangco and wife, Carmen, better known as Kimi who wants to b become mayor of Sison town, are both running unopposed under NPC.

Also, Anda Mayor Nestor Pulido (NPC) is running again while his wife, first district Board Member Alicia Pulido, is seeking re-election.–EVA
